Grotesque

Natural clay sculpture, appr. 6" tall

The noticeable cracks are from being dropped and shattering into about 30 pieces. There are no photos prior to the damage.

Sculptures of this kind are often mistakenly called "gargoyles". A grotesque is a 16th-century decorative style in which parts of human, animal, and plant forms are distorted and mixed.

I was going for a Theda Bera's Cleopatra/20's/Art Nouveau look. The illustration should be evocative of classic silent movies.

Digital illustration, also existing as a partially Flash-animated character for an unfinished Web site concept.

Based on the character Mayor of Boracho in the Blake Edward's movie The Great Race. The actor that played this character, Hal Smith, is best known for playing Otis the drunk in the old Andy Griffith Show on TV.

Just an illustration to go with a song of the same name. This evil clown's name is inspired by an old German emblem called Totenkopf, meaning "death's head".
